Overtrading Protection: frequency and daily trading limits

Set entry restrictions, inspect the active reason for a block, and distinguish trading limits from automatic exits and the manual interface lock.

Set and review the limits

  1. Open Settings → OverTrading and enable the limits you intend to enforce; an unchecked limit does not apply just because a value is present.
  2. Set maximum trade counts for the required month, week, day, hour or minute, and minimum waiting time after opening or closing a trade.
  3. Configure daily loss/profit thresholds and maximum simultaneous open trades. Check the displayed units and money/percentage conversion before applying.
  4. Review the restriction status and affected entry paths. Reopen the settings panel to refresh its report figures when checking updated totals.

What is restricted

When a configured boundary is reached, relevant dashboard entry paths are blocked and show the reason. In the current MT5 implementation, this includes scheduled entry, virtual activation, two-stage entry and manual-size supplements as well as ordinary entry.

Close and delete commands remain available under Overtrading restrictions. A blocked new entry is not an instruction to close every open position. Basket Close Conditions and news Close All are separate exit features.

Example: three trades and a waiting interval

Enable a daily maximum of 3 trades and a 15-minute interval after opening. After an entry, a further eligible request can be blocked by the interval; after the configured daily count is reached, the daily limit can continue blocking entries even when the interval has elapsed.

If several limits apply, inspect the current reason rather than assuming only the last edited limit matters. Disabling one boundary does not remove another active restriction.

Overtrading versus Manual Trading Lock

Manual Trading Lock prevents manual dashboard entry, close and delete actions, including configured hotkeys, while allowing navigation and settings. It is chart-local and can be toggled with the control or Ctrl+Shift+L.

The manual lock does not stop tick/timer automation, existing broker pending orders or trading outside this dashboard. Overtrading limits are also not a broker-wide account firewall or a guarantee of compliance with every prop-firm rule.

Common checks

  • An entry remains blocked? Read the active reason, enabled count/interval/loss/profit limits and manual-lock state.
  • Report looks unchanged? Reopen the OverTrading settings; the status checks and report refresh do not share the same update cadence.
  • Scheduled entry was rejected? Inspect the task list and history; do not assume automatic retry. A virtual pending order may remain waiting for a later eligible activation.
