Partial Close, Breakeven and Trailing: a coordinated workflow
Plan staged exits, define when Stop Loss moves toward entry, and select how it follows price after activation. Check the combined settings before applying them to managed trades.
Configure the workflow
- Choose global defaults or open a trade’s management dialog for ticket-specific settings. Confirm which existing trades an Apply action will affect.
- In Partial Close, choose trigger levels, the volume basis and the amount to close at each stage. Review any paired SL Move To target.
- In Breakeven, set the activation threshold and the intended lock level. In Trail, select a method and its required distance, step or indicator parameters.
- Review the planned levels and remaining lot, then apply. Monitor the resulting SL and partial executions; saved defaults and an already configured ticket are distinct settings.
Partial Close: volume and SL Move To
Up to eight stages can be configured. Volume can use initial-lot percentage, remaining-lot percentage, fixed lot or automatic distribution. On an initial 1.00 lot, 30% closes 0.30; a later 30% of the remaining 0.70 closes 0.21. Two stages based on initial lot would instead request 0.30 each, subject to available volume and broker lot steps.
SL Move To is a separate action at its paired partial-TP trigger and can be enabled without closing volume at that stage. Its target must remain behind the trigger for the trade direction. Review minimum lot and the amount left after each stage.
Breakeven: activation is separate from the lock level
BE Start defines when the move is attempted; Lock defines the new SL. For a Buy entered at 1.10000, an illustrative start at 1.10200 and lock at 1.10020 moves SL only after the start is reached. These numbers are explanatory, not suggested settings.
An SL at entry does not guarantee a zero-cost exit. Review commission coverage where available, spread and possible slippage. Broker stop-distance rules can reject an SL modification.
Trailing: eight methods
Regular uses start, distance and step. Dynamic changes its trailing behavior with movement. Candle uses high/low values with timeframe and padding. Profit uses money-based parameters. MA, Parabolic SAR, ATR and Fractal derive levels from their respective indicators. Configure the parameters of the chosen method rather than assuming the same distance works in every mode.
Position trailing modifies SL. Pending-order trailing modifies Entry; for Two Stage Orders it starts after Trigger activation. These controls perform different jobs.
Combine and verify
The normal management cycle checks partial actions, then breakeven, then trailing. Several enabled features can attempt to change the same SL. Inspect their trigger and target levels together; do not assume the last option you enabled has exclusive control.
Dashboard-side management needs the terminal and dashboard running. An accepted broker SL remains broker-side, but future BE/trailing/partial actions stop when local automation stops. Virtual protection also depends on the running dashboard.
Common checks
- Unexpected partial volume? Check initial versus remaining lot, fixed lot, stage flags and the symbol’s volume step.
- SL did not move? Check activation, target direction, broker stop distances and the enabled setting on that specific ticket.
- Why did another feature move SL? Review SL Move To, BE, trailing, basket rules and manual modifications together.
