Telegram Connection: setup and dashboard alerts
Connect a bot to a chat or forum topic, verify delivery, and select which Trade Dashboard events should reach Telegram.
Connect the bot
- Create a bot with @BotFather and enter its Bot Token in Settings → Telegram Connection. Keep the token private; it grants access to your bot.
- Start a conversation with the bot or add it to the destination group with posting access. Send a new message, then use Find Chat ID to find the destination.
- Enter Chat ID and, for a forum topic, its optional Topic ID. Allow https://api.telegram.org in MetaTrader’s Expert Advisors WebRequest settings.
- Enable Telegram, check the connection feedback and click Send Test Message. Confirm the message arrives in the intended chat or topic before enabling event delivery.
Choose the events
The Telegram master switch and each selected event must both be enabled. Choose the trade and management events you need in the notification settings. A successful test message proves destination delivery, not that every event row has been enabled.
Telegram is a notification destination, not a remote trading-command interface. Dashboard alerts require the terminal, connection and local event processing to remain active.
Example: send trade events to a forum topic
Add the bot to a forum group, select that group’s Chat ID and enter the desired Topic ID. Send a test and confirm it appears in that topic. Then enable the relevant trade events while leaving unrelated events off.
Changing the destination requires another test. Omitting Topic ID sends to the chat’s default destination rather than a specific topic.
Resolve connection feedback
- WebRequest failure: check the allowed Telegram URL and network access.
- HTTP 400: recheck Chat ID and Topic ID. HTTP 401/404: recheck Bot Token.
- HTTP 403: start the bot or give it posting access in the chat. HTTP 429: wait before testing again.
- Test works but alerts do not: check the master switch, individual event switches and whether the event actually occurred while the dashboard was running.
Keep credentials out of recordings
Hide the Bot Token before taking a screenshot or recording a setup video. If a real token has been exposed, replace it through BotFather and update the dashboard. A shared video should demonstrate the fields with a concealed or example credential.
